Author: After testing for the past few months, WhatsApp has finally launched the much-awaited option to transfer chat history from Android to iOS and vice versa i.e. from iOS to Android. Actually switching handsets repeatedly is not a new thing nowadays.
In that case, even after buying a new phone, WhatsApp's chat backup feature can easily download old messages, media files, etc. from Google Drive to that phone. But if you buy a phone with a different operating system, downloading this backup history to it was not an easy task until now. Especially when switching from an Android smartphone to an iPhone or vice versa, one had to rely on third-party apps for this task. But now this hassle is no more, as WhatsApp has now rolled out a chat migration feature globally.
In a tweet, the instant messaging platform announced the general availability of the new chat history transfer feature. According to the company, users will now have the freedom to switch to their preferred devices with this new option.
How to transfer WhatsApp chat history from Android to iPhone?
1. First, install the 'Move to iOS' app on your Android phone and open the app and follow the on-screen prompts.
2. In this case a code will be displayed on your iPhone. Enter that code on an Android phone.
3. Tap on the 'Continue' option and follow the on-screen prompts again.
4. Now select the 'WhatsApp' option from the Transfer Data screen.
5. Click on the 'START' button provided on the Android phone and wait for the transfer data to be ready Once this data is ready, the account will be signed out from the Android phone.
6. Once the previous step is completed, open the 'Move to iOS' app again and click on the 'Next' button.
7. Then click on the given 'Continue' option to continue the data transfer process from Android phone to iPhone and wait for the confirmation of 'Move to iOS' to confirm that the chat transfer is complete.
8. Install the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store on iPhone and log in using the phone number used on the old device.
9. Click the 'Allow' button and wait for the transferred chat backup to download to iPhone.
Undoubtedly, this new feature of WhatsApp is very convenient, but users must keep several things in mind while transferring chat history from Android to iOS or vice versa. These are –
1. The Android smartphone must be running Lollipop OS i.e. Android 5 software or its later operating system. On the other hand, the iPhone needs to be running iOS 15.5.
2. Android phone WhatsApp 2.22.7.74 version and iPhone WhatsApp 2.22.10.70 iOS version must be checked.
3. Old i.e. same phone number must be used to open a WhatsApp account on any device.
4. iPhone must be factory new or factory reset by pairing with the 'Move to iOS' app to move data from the Android phone.
5. Both devices must be connected to a power source while transferring chat history.
6. Both devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network or your Android device must be connected to the iPhone's hotspot.
